In what way do you pay attention to sustainable business practices?
Since January 2025, we have held the internationally recognized Green Key label!
Our mission is to bring people closer to nature and to make them more aware of the importance of biodiversity. Sustainable and local business is extremely important to us. An overview:
We are connected to Trevion: 100% green and Belgian energy
We do a lot of re- and upcycling, both in front of and behind the scenes.
we installed green roofs at our location
For our bee hotels, we buy wine crates with a flaw (which would otherwise be destroyed)
There is a naturally managed garden on our site with bee hotels, feeders for birds and squirrels, bat boxes, space for hedgehogs,... + extensive visits from many insect and bird species.
We regularly organize workshops to make these animal houses and thus spread our mission.
While sawing wood and bamboo for the workshops, we collect the sawdust and use it in our eco-toilet . Or we pick it up at the Materialenbank in Leuven.
During the tree climbing workshops, we use extra bark protectors to avoid damaging the trees.
We encourage you to come to our activities by bicycle or public transport.
Everything is sorted , and we also ask this of participants and guests in our tipi.
we use as little plastic as possible
Our outdoor shower uses filtered rainwater.
In addition to a rainwater tank , we have several rain barrels so that we have enough to get through a dry summer without using tap water for our garden and plants.
We use ecological cleaning products, eco toilet and kitchen paper, soap,...
we use CO2 neutral paper, eco pens,...
We organize cleanups a few times a year: there is our Duckwing's Dijle cleanup with canoes (also available on request for companies), and in addition, regular litter collection campaigns in and alongside the Ijse.
For additional fencing, we chose tree bark mats : this is a waste product that has not been chemically treated, attracts insects, and is therefore an extremely ecological and biodiverse choice.
We support ecological, local, and social projects in the area such as Energy Cooperative Druifkracht, Casa Magnolia, Ter Meeren,...
We source our coffee responsibly, organically, and fairtrade
We support local entrepreneurship : for example, we purchase regional beer, local lemonades, organic apple juice, yogurt, etc. from our own municipality, and we make our own syrup for aperitifs...
Where does the name Duckwing come from?
This is Frank's geocaching name, and from a passion for geocaching and the outdoors, the idea arose to do more with the knowledge and experience regarding everything related to nature and the outdoors.
Do you only organize activities for sporty people?
No, there are also creative workshops and family activities. For an overview, see our activities page.
Do you also come to locations?
Absolutely, we will come to your company, organization, school, etc., and happily work out a great program tailored to your group!
Is there a newsletter so I can stay informed about your activities?
Yes, absolutely! At the bottom of every page on our site, you will find "Subscribe to our newsletter".
Leave your name, first name, and email address here, and you will regularly (max. 1 time per month) be the first to receive more information about our activities :)
Are you easily accessible by public transport?
Absolutely: there is a bus stop near "Van Kildonck" with good connections to Leuven, Overijse, and Brussels. Leuven station is 15 km away, and Sint-Joris-Weert station is 8 km away.
Can we make a reservation online?
This is possible for our workshops and activities with a fixed date, such as the weekends and children's camps. You click on " register online ", choose the desired activity, fill in your details, pay a deposit, and receive a confirmation.
For other reservations (kickbike, tipi, teambuilding), please send us an email or message via the relevant page. We will work something out for you, and you will receive the payment details afterwards.
How can we pay at your place?
By bank transfer, cash, or Payconiq.
For our activities with a fixed date, such as workshops and weekends, you can register and pay online .
Can we leave a review on the website?
That's possible! Currently not directly, but feel free to send this via email (duckwing@telenet.be) and we will gladly add it to the other reviews. You can also leave your experience via our Google or Facebook page .
Is wearing a (bicycle) helmet mandatory while kickbiking?
For adults, this is not necessary but is recommended.
It is mandatory for children under 12. If you do not have one yourself, we rent them out for €2.50.
I have no canoeing experience. Can I join the canoeing weekend?
Absolutely, during our weekends the emphasis is on relaxation and having a good time in nature.
The Semois is a calm river with no challenging sections. You will receive instructions and explanations at departure, and Frank will guide both tours, on Saturday and Sunday. So, experience or peak fitness is not necessary :).
I have never slept in a tent before, so I am hesitant to join your weekend...
We have noticed from experience that this is actually not too bad for most people. It is important to ensure warmth and comfort, but we provide tips in advance, and you can rent equipment from us.
